Naropa Invocation for Convocation 2013

—Lee Worley

From the vastness of accommodating space

On this 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

Here, at this place of study and practice

In this moment of uniting and reuniting

Let us open our hearts with gratitude

For the infinite causes and conditions

Bringing us together.

To the earth that supports us and grants us her riches,

To the water that flows in and around us bringing lubrication and clarity,

To the fire that enlivens and purifies us,

To the winds of activity and change that stir us.

We listen to you. We hear you.

To Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Naropa’s founder,

And to the ancestral lineages of all students, alumnae, faculty and staff

To our parents and our children

To those who studied here before us and the ones who will come after,

We honor you. We remember you.

At the beginning of this new academic year

We invite the dancers and the singers, the teachers and the guides, the peacemakers and the poets,

The healers, the doers, the meditators,

The uncoverers of lost things and the creators of new things and whatever fields of knowledge there may be,

Together may we make of this school a crucible where learning can transform into wisdom—for the benefit of all who share this precious planet

In humbleness, with curiosity and strength of purpose

Let us celebrate the love of learning

Celebrate fundamental health and goodness

Celebrate gladness and joy in living

Celebrate the great magic space of mind itself.

      “May all beings be well,

       May all beings be happy,

        Peace, peace, peace.”
